Music and Makan x 1880
Saturday, January 12th 2019, 5-7pm, 1880
Music and Makan is thrilled to collaborate with members club 1880 to bring you "The Eccentrics", featuring a string quartet comprising four of Singapore's best classical musicians - Yang Shuxiang, David Loke, Martin Peh and Leslie Tan.
Playing tribute to weird and wonderful compositions ranging from medieval through the classical canon to jazz, we’ve invited Music and Makan to curate a one-of-a-kind Saturday evening for you. This live music experience featuring 4 of Singapore’s best classical musicians, will be paired with canapés that are inspired by the works.
As a nod to female empowerment, the string quartet will perform a selection of pieces by Hildegard von Bingen, a German abbess and mystic poet. They will premiere an original jazz composition by David Loke, and move you with the beautiful and complex tunes by Giacomo Puccini, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky.
$98 (early bird, and 1880 members)
$128 General Admission
price includes canapés and wine
Music and Makan - "Evocation"
Saturday, 20 October 2018, 5-7pm
Join us for Music and Makan - Evocation, a unique performance featuring the classical guitar and the bassoon! We are excited to have the 2018 Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Award and 2010 HSBC Youth Excellence Award for Musical Excellence winner Kevin Loh (Classical Guitar), Jo Anne Sukumaran (Bassoon) and Kseniia Vokhmianina (Piano) present a programme evoking feelings of love and longing, and inspired by night and nature. Perhaps two of the most tech-savvy classical musicisans in Singapore today - Kevin was talent-spotted on YouTube by the Yehudi Menuhin School (one of the world's most prestigious music specialist schools in the UK) and Jo Anne has launched a kickstarter campaign, they will also give a brief introduction to their instruments and answer any questions you may have!
In line with Music and Makan's mission to feature Singapore's best classical musicians in intimate and engaging performance dialogues to grow the audience base for them to be heard and understood, we are thrilled to support Jo Anne Sukumaran in her crowdfunding campaign to launch her debut album "The Night Garden"!
We round off the evening with delectable pre-dinner light bites and wine and an opportunity to mingle with old and new friends! The wines for the evening are generously sponsored by New Zealand Unlimited.
